Remember when I was ragging on the book "Taking Fire: the True Story of a Decorated Chopper Pilot" about Ron "mini man" Alexander? Well now the co-author of the book (Charles Sasser - SEAL and Sniper wet-dreamer now turned Air Cav expert) managed to get an article published in the February 2002 issue of "Vietnam" magazine. Not to be outdone by the B.S. they piled on in the book, they promote squatty to Troop Commanding Officer in the article! You hit a point in your storytelling where the lies come back to bite you on the ass, and they have arrived at that point. Squats was NEVER the Troop CO - never even got close. And here's the proof: I have the officer rating roster from October of 1969 that shows just how far down on the totem pole he really was. "Vietnam" got bamboozled on this one and I'm waiting to see if they have the cahones to admit their failure to verify the contents of the article. If not, they're on my boycott list too along with St. Martin's Press and Barnes & Noble. If you want details, email me. Glen, your faithful H/75 Chauffeur

A/3/75, '91-'94, Glad to see a really great site, devoted to the true warriors of the military. I just read the article from SGT Palmer's widow and it brought back memories of sitting out in the cold desert night at 29 Palms, when he was shot. I've been out of the military for about two and half years, now. I like what I'm doing, but I wish, all the time, I was back in with my Ranger Buddies, especially with the Afghanistan campaign going on now. Anyone who was at 3rd Batt. when 1SG Mclain, CPT Garrett were in charge of Attack Co., then COL. Grange(Rgt. Cdr.) Gould, Pete, Guido, Bucky, Wheeler, you know who you are, drop me a line. .......I was a Cobra pilot in 1970.......callsign Redskin Ten, and then Sixteen. I left in October. I was with "D" Co, 158th Avn, along with the Ghost Riders, Lancers, and Phoenix, our slick units. I lost my hootchmate, Tschann Mashburn, Redskin 26, and his co-pilot, Steve Finke, on May 5, 1970, while supporting operations in the DMZ. I believe they were covering an extraction of one of P/75's teams. Does anyone have any knowledge of that operation???? If anyone has information, I would like to know. Steve Smith

I know we (old LRRP - Rangers) appreciate what has been done here, but I'll tell you what......the families of these old Ranger - LRRP types, who make up a large part of the membership appreciate it too. I hear remarks to this effect all the time on the little 71St LRP web site I keep.
